Before your appointment.
- Please bring the referral sheet and radiographs (X-rays) your dentist may have given you.
- Please bring a list of all prescription, non-prescription, natural and herbal medications you are taking along with their dosage and frequency of intake.
- Continue all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. If there is a question, please call our office prior to your appointment.
- Please eat a full breakfast or lunch as applicable.
- If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic premedication because of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), heart murmur, hip, knee, cardiac or other prosthesis, or if you have rheumatic heart disease, please tell us when you call our office to make your appointment.
At the appointment.
- A thorough endodontic examination will be performed and the results of that examination explained to you prior to the initiation of any treatment.
- This procedure will be performed using local anesthesia. There are usually no restrictions after the procedure concerning driving or returning to work.
After completion of endodontic treatment.
- You may experience tenderness to your tooth and the surroundings gingiva for several days. Discomfort may be alleviated by taking the medication indicated by your endodontist.
- Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with medications, or should swelling develop, please contact our office immediately.
- You should get your tooth covered with a permanent filling by your regular dentist within 1-2 weeks after the completion of the root canal. Do not chew on the side of the treated tooth until then.
- Continue to brush and floss normally.
- A complete report of treatment will be sent to your general dentist.
Included in your treatment are follow-up examinations to evaluate the progress of healing. These appointments require only a few minutes and no additional fee will be charged.
